Faculty Name: Prof. Anil Agarwal
Course Period: 31st July 2023 to 30th November 2023 (Monday 4:00PM to 5:25PM; Thursday 2:30PM to 3:55PM)
Number of Credits: 3 credits
Course Contents: Part 1: Force and displacement method of analysis, computer implementation, Nonlinear static analysis including geometrically nonlinear systems.
Part 2: Fundamentals of elasticity, Unsymmetrical bending, Shear centre, Torsion, Thin-walled sections, Beam on elastic foundation, Stress concentration, Column buckling, Beam buckling, Beam-Column buckling, Frame buckling.
What you'll learn: At the end of the course, the participants should be able to analyse a complex structural system and predict its response under a combination of external loads. The response may include internal forces, deformations, support reactions, and stresses and strains in the structure. The course will help participants understand how the commercial structural analysis softwares work. This course provides a foundation that is essential before designing a structural system.
About the Instructor: Prof. Anil Agarwal is a faculty at IIT Hyderabad. Prof. Agarwal did his B.Tech. and M.Tech. from IIT Kanpur and PhD. From Purdue University. His areas of research include the behaviour and design of steel and composite structures. He has significantly contributed towards improving the state of the art in fire resistance design of steel and composite structures.
